Campaign to Make Texans ‘Homeowners for Life’

The Texas Association of REALTORS® and the Texas State Affordable Housing Corp. have teamed up to teach Texas residents more about the steps to home ownership in a new program called “Get Ready Texas: Making Texans Homeowners for Life.”

The program promotes home ownership by covering topics like determining if you’re ready to buy a home, understanding mortgage loans and credit, how to avoid predatory lending, steps in navigating the home-buying process, and finding local and state down-payment assistance programs.

“Studies have shown that home buyers who receive pre-purchase education are one-third less likely to fall behind on their mortgages by 90 days or more, compared to home buyers who didn’t take a home buyer education course,” says David Long, president of the TSAHC. “We know that Texas REALTORS® want their clients to be successful home owners, so partnering with the TAR to spread the word about these programs to the public was a natural fit.”
