Locally owned Sherman & Co., Realtors® has served the real estate needs of the Texas Hill Country since 1963. Les Sherman taught in the public school systems of Cisco and Abilene, Texas. He was high school principal in Imperial, Texas. He moved to Kerrville in 1960 to facilitate a work study program at
Tivy High School. Sherman began working as a Sales Agent with Charlie Henry’s real estate office in downtown Kerrville during the summers. He became a Broker; and, in 1963, he opened the Les Sherman Agency.

Sherman’s daughter, Suzanne, and Terry Jacobs of Oklahoma both attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene (where Sherman had met his wife, Norma Ghormley, years earlier). Suzanne had witnessed first-hand her father’s sometimes unrewarded long hours in real estate, so Jacobs’ plans to be a music teacher fit into her “husband criteria” perfectly. (As you might imagine, Jacobs’ career change later in the marriage has produced a few humble giggles over the years.) Regardless, it was fate on more levels than they could have possibly known when they married in 1969. When Jacobs earned a Bachelors degree in Music Theory & Composition, he already had the responsibility of providing for a wife and a baby girl; so Sherman suggested that Jacobs take a one-year break from school to work with him as a Sales Agent. Jacobs jokes, “That has become the longest year of my life,” as real estate obviously became his lifelong career.

In 1977, Jacobs and a partner purchased the company from Sherman, changing the name to Sherman & Co., Realtors®. A few years later, Jacobs bought out his partner.

 In the 1980’s, the economic downturn hit the Kerrville area. By 1987, Terry was forced to lay off two full-time secretaries; and he turned to Suzanne for help. As a mother of two young girls, she tearfully gave up her position of full-time homemaker to help her husband in the office. Suzanne instantly became, and remains to this day, an integral part of the company. In addition to her clerical duties, Suzanne graciously greets visitors, offering a fresh cup of coffee and often even a home baked good from her own kitchen. Sherman & Co., Realtors’ agents often refer to Suzie’s homemade treats as a company “perk.”

Also following the family legacy is Suzanne’s brother,Leslie Don Sherman. After graduating from Baylor University with a degree in Real Estate and Finance, he worked as a Real Estate Appraiser for years; and today,  enjoys a successful career selling Austin real estate and operating Sherman & Co.’s Austin office. He assists buyers and sellers alike and enjoys a large following.

In order to continue providing the best service possible to the Kerrville area, Terry Jacobs has declined opportunities to join franchises. This allows him to make decisions based solely on the needs of this specific community, rather than answering to a franchise CEO. He is also free to do business with local companies, doing his part to boost the local economy, rather than with national companies as dictated by a franchise. Another choice is to act as a non-competing Broker in order to better serve his agents, buyers, and sellers. In this way, his efforts are dedicated to keeping his agents aware of constantly changing regulations and methods, as well as advising them while overseeing each transaction.

Jacobs has served the Kerrville Board of Realtors as President three terms, and has participated in a long list of committees. He and his agents have received numerous awards from peers and various entities. Jacobs also acts as an expert witness in real estate related court cases in other Texas counties.

For over 25 years, Terry and Suzanne Jacobs have been members of Grace Bible Chapel, and Terry has shared his love of music as Worship Leader for the congregation.

Through economic ups and downs, from a 3-ring binder MLS system to modern technology, and from a contract for the purchase of residential real estate on a single page to nine pages plus applicable addenda, the goal of Sherman & Co., Realtors® remains the same: providing Sellers and Buyers the best trained and equipped Listing Agents and Buyer’s Agents.
